PC Tech is a monthly technology that focuses mainly on technology news, computers and gadgets, software and hardware component reviews, features on IT, Research & Education. Its mission is to publish East Africa's leading technology magazine with well researched, relevant and accurate information building a loyal readership in East Africa and beyond.
More importantly, PC Tech was founded with a vision of enhancing ICT education in Africa, considering that it is coming to a time when the economy fully relies on technology. To achieve this, the magazine is intended to carry our sensitization about ICT trends and threats, publishing technology related news, and features, and profiling people who have made it in the IT industry as a way of inspiring others who are looking to building similar careers.
For IT scholars, PC Tech publishes IT research news, information and publications. This section, named “research” in the magazine targets IT students both at undergraduate and postgraduate level. It has developed to be the most important part of the publication following a recent partnership with The ICT University, an American University that is committed to providing content for this section.
Generally, PC Tech magazine targets all ICT users/consumers, enthusiasts, students and researchers. With a frequently updated website, the PC Tech is set to be the key reference point for both individuals and organizations making key decisions, and doing ICT procurement.
The accumulated information will be used to create a Repository, whose development has already started, and is set to be launched in 2011.
The Concept of PC Tech Magazine
Current Status of PC Tech Magazine
PC Tech magazine has had a significant impact, both locally and internationally. When a team from the ICT University came to launch the University in Uganda, our PC Tech team had an opportunity to interact with them. They were very impressed by both the quality of the content and the design.
We agreed with them to have a partnership, in which they would facilitate content for the magazine’s Research section, giving us publications to run on a monthly basis. They also agreed to give us some writers to add to our team to make it more credible, a move that made us have Dr. Richard Boateng (PhD) take the role of the International Editor.
The inclusion of Dr. Boateng meant that we could, through him connect to Ghana, and this month we sent 50 copies there. Part of the agreement with The ICT University was that we shall provide for the visitors to be able to buy the magazine online.
Following the partnership with The ICT University, we have launched PC Tech Education Initiative, a move through which 20 schools and higher learning institutions receive 5copies each. St. Lawrence University has already received copies, and we have lined up others to receive their copies month. Officially, PC Tech Education Initiative started with our forth issue (June).
PC Tech will be launched in Ghana at the Ghana Graduates Conference in September (www.ghanagraduatesconference.com).
Through partnerships, the magazine has strategized to be available in more than 8 countries across Africa by the end of 2010.
